Freud’s “id,” “ego” and “super-ego” can be rather confusing and difficult to comprehend clearly, cleanly and completely.
In the GUTUL framework (Table 8-1),
(1) Freud’s “id” is clearly and cleanly understood and defined as “our consciousness of xxx being as itself,”
(2) Freud’s “ego” is clearly and cleanly understood and defined as the asymmetrical part of “our consciousness of xxx being in itself,” and
(3) Freud’s “super-ego” is clearly and cleanly understood and defined as the symmetrical part of “our consciousness of xxx being in itself.”
“Ego” is what motivates people to do what they want to do. It corresponds to the Monotheistic Original Sin.
“Super-ego” is what motives people to do what they should and must do and is Kant’s Categorical Imperative. It corresponds to the Monotheistic God’s Grace.
